skin problemsAcne Treatments

Some people think getting rid of acne just means keeping your face clean. Not so…in fact, too much scrubbing can actually make your breakouts worse. I’m sure you’ve heard these before:

  • Acne Myth: Eating junk foods will make you break out
  • Acne Myth: Washing your face more frequently prevents acne
  • Acne Myth: Sun exposure helps clear up acne
  • Acne Myth: You can get acne from sweating

Acne is a complex medical condition. At Clear, we are here to dispel those myths, and help you get back that “clear” complexion.
Acne (acne vulgaris) can appear on the face, neck, shoulders, back, & chest, and can be triggered by stress, hormones, medications, or cosmetics. Left untreated, acne can lead to unsightly scarring. Microcomedones (bumps) form as a result of excessive sebum (oil) production coupled with abnormal skin cell growth within the hair follicle. When the skin cells die, they become trapped in the follicle, and along with increased sebum production, this creates the ideal environment for bacteria (p. acnes bacteria) to grow and cause acne.

Types of Acne

There are two main types of acne: inflammatory and non-inflammatory. Whiteheads and blackheads are non-inflammatory acne. Whiteheads appear as small dots under the skin, and blackheads are actually open or on the surface. Inflammatory acne appears as red, swollen, solid lesions that are painful to the touch.

It’s important to determine which type of acne you have, so you can treat it accordingly. And, yes, it is not uncommon to suffer from a combination of both.

Marina in PetoskeyWhy Petoskey?

Petoskey is a small oasis tucked away in Northern Michigan. We have chosen to open our office here because Petoskey has a natural beauty that we love. Home of The Little Traverse Bay, and the historic Bay View and more modern Bay Habor developments, this little city has attracted many big city natives to settle down and enjoy the peaceful flow of life that Petoskey offers. Because of the influx of new people to the area, there is now a very diverse and cultured population. This makes our high-end customer experience perfect to serve locals with all their dermatology needs. We truly love this area and are so happy to serve our community!
